Astrid is the great grand-daughter of Alice Smith Thiele, whose diaries form the basis of the excellent book "Children of the Manse" Edited by Astrid Hess and Gordon Booth, Bellfield Press 2004, ISBN 0 9526554 7 0 which describes a childhood spent in Keig in the late C19th.
