Alice Smith Thiele was the sister of William Robertson Smith and the author of a detailed diary of life at Keig Free Church Manse in Victorian times which was incorporated into the book by Astrid Hess and Gordon Booth, "Children of the Manse", which describes the childhood of the Smith children.
