I believe the gap in script was caused by the return of the named person and whose name was removed by the session clerk wm. McDonald

The War Memorial comes from Howe Trinity Parish Church,Alford, which worships in the building which was previously Alford East Church, and before that, the United Free Church, Alford. The Memorial commemorates the men associated with that congregation. As the reference in the inscription to "the men of this church" could lead to confusion, and Howe Trinity is a union of three churches, it was decided to lend the memorial to the Alford Heritage Centre, where it would be more available to the wider public.
My name is Iain William James Watt and my family originated from Lumphanan to Torries O' Tough. I would be very interested in knowing the history of A.B. George Hemphill Watt.

Many thanks.
