Topping out ceremony at Alford Public HallPicture added on 07 August 2008
this is a wonderful photo, I have just posted a photograph of my grandparent's wedding at this venue in 1904, I believe it was the first wedding to be held there. The wedding group are standing outside and the building can be clearly seen.

Thanks for the photograph Cressida (number 630 "First wedding in Alford Public Hall").One common theme I am continually finding in these photographs is what happy people and occasions in the Vale! You may be interested to know that one of the workmen atop the Public Hall in the photograph above is the great grandfather of Jack Duncan, our local master builder and undertaker.....but which one?

My paternal great grandfather, Provost of Alford, James H. Stewart, master baker of Wellfield, Alford laid the foundation stone of this hall and was presented with an inscribed silver trowel to mark the occasion.
